Our Approach
What to expect on your first visit

Your first visit is detailed. We really listen to you tell us about your health history and what brought you to see us.

From gaining a clearer picture of your current health, you will then undertake a comprehensive examination to determine if we can potentially help you.

At this point your Chiropractor will decide whether or not x-rays or scans are required. Upon gathering all this information, your Chiropractor will discuss all options of care with you.

Generally, all new patients are adjusted on their first visit.

Pregnancy

We feel so privileged to look after our pregnant Mummas at Thrive. Chiropractic care is a safe and natural way to support a healthier pregnancy and a more comfortable birth.

Children

Children are more than welcome at THRIVE.
Many of our clients are under 18 years of age, as more parents discover the health benefits of regular Chiropractic check-ups for the entire family. Our Chiropractors have post-graduate training in paediatrics and have children of their own. The activator instrument and craniosacral techniques are mainly used for kids to ensure that adjustments are comfortable and gentle.

Families

At THRIVE, we offer a number of Chiropractic services that cater for the whole family. This includes Chiropractic care for seniors, paediatrics and pregnancy.

Sports

Chiropractic care helps athletes perform at their best by improving flexibility, coordination, balance and strength through proper spinal alignment and muscle balance.

Thrive Chiropractic

Our Philosophy

The premise of Chiropractic that we hold at THRIVE is that having a healthy spine and nervous system is a vital part of living a healthy life. Chiropractors are experts in assessing for dysfunction of the spine, which can be one of the main causes of pain and discomfort. Through Chiropractic care, joint mobility is restored, and nerve irritation is relieved, to help the body return to functioning at its best.

Here at THRIVE we see people of all ages, from newborn babies through to great-grandparents. Techniques that we utilise are adapted accordingly from gentle low force adjustments to more traditional manual Chiropractic techniques.

Krystle Gourvelos

Chiropractor

Krystle is a chiropractor with over 12 years of clinical experience helping people move through pain, tension, stress and recurring body patterns. Alongside chiropractic care, she is trained in Professional Applied Kinesiology, uses hypno-coaching and a deeply intuitive approach allowing her to take a very detailed view of health and the many factors that can influence how the body feels and functions. She works with clients experiencing neck and back pain, headaches, jaw tension, recurring muscle tightness, fatigue, stress-related symptoms and ongoing discomfort that doesn’t seem to have a clear explanation. Krystle’s approach looks at the whole picture. Not just where it hurts, but what may be driving the pattern underneath — posture, stress, nervous system load, emotional pressure, habits, lifestyle and the way the body has learned to protect itself through symptomatic patterns. Clients often describe her approach as calm, practical and insightful. Her goal is to help people better understand their body’ s communication, reduce unnecessary tension and support lasting improvements and growth in their health and wellbeing. Outside of her clinic life, Krystle enjoys time with her 2 active boys, writing, seeing clients online, good food and coffee. Often you’ll find her sitting in a sunny spot in the backyard or the park putting her thoughts on paper.

1. SLEEP WELL.
Like animals, hibernation during the cooler temperatures is highly recommended for recharging and resetting our busy lives. Crank the heat up a little and make sure you are getting your 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

2. STAY ACTIVE.
Regular exercise has shown to boost your immune system. Even a nice brisk walk in the fresh air with your beanie and scarf will help to ward off any bugs coming your way.

3. NUTRITION.
We all know eating a well-balanced diet and drinking plenty of water is important to your health. However, did you know that during Winter it is really important to supplement your Vitamin D levels. With reduced sunlight and covering up our skin, our body isn’t able to produce what we need. A product I highly recommend is INNATE CHOICE VITAMIN D3. It’s easy to take in a droplet form and great for the entire family. Available at Thrive Chiropractic to purchase.
Vitamin D not only helps with your immune system, but it is also known to:
*Reduce inflammation, pain and soreness
*Increase bone density
*Improves digestive function
*Helps with mood disorders such as depression

4. BONE BROTH.
Bone broth is incredible for your immune system as well as healing your gut and general well-being. Just one cup holds a significant amount of nutrients, minerals and flavour that migrate from the bones into the water, making a wonderfully warming, nourishing and healing drink. The home-made bone broths are the best. It is simple to make and you can use up all your left-over veggie scraps. (See recipe below).

5. GET A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT!!!
It goes without saying that getting a regular Chiropractic check-up is even more important during winter. Chiropractic care ensures that your nervous system is working at its optimum, which in turn enables your immune system to function at 100% when challenged by cold and flu bugs. So many of our practice members comment on how friends and family around them are all sick but “bugs just seem to pass the by” or they “get over things more quickly”. This is no coincidence. You are simply healthier having Chiropractic care.

During menopause the two main hormones oestrogen and progesterone fluctuate unpredictably, instead of following a steady monthly pattern. Oestrogen is primarily produced by the ovaries and regulates the menstrual cycle. Oestrogen can spike higher than usual causing heavy periods, breast tenderness and mood swings. Other times it can drop sharply leading to hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal dryness. The closer you come to menopause the less oestrogen is produced. Progesterone is our “happy” hormone. It is produced after ovulation and helps to regulate the cycle and balance oestrogen. As ovulation becomes less frequent, progesterone levels drop leading to irregular periods and sometimes heavier or longer bleeding. Low progesterone can also contribute to insomnia, anxiety and irritability since it has a calming effect on the brain. So how can we help balance our oestrogen and increase our progesterone levels?

1. Get adjusted! A Chiropractic adjustment can help balance hormones by improving nervous system function. The nervous system controls our endocrine system which regulates your hormone production, leading to better overall health and wellbeing.

2. Manage stress- high cortisol “steals” resources for progesterone production.
– Meditation, deep breathing and yoga
– Regular sleep (7-9 hours)
– Prioritising time with girlfriends- social closeness also improves progesterone production.

3. Support ovulation
– Moderate exercise- excess HIT supresses progesterone production.
– Healthy fats- cholesterol building block for hormones; avocadoes, olive oil, nuts, seeds, Innate
Choice Omega 3 fish oil. (Can be purchased at Thrive.)
– Vitex Chasteberry- promotes ovulation
– Vit C supplement- 4000mg shown to improve serum progesterone levels and offer adrenal support.
– Fibre- 2 cups of Fibre with each meal has been shown to assist in the metabolism and excretion of oestrogen. On a sidenote, it has also been shown to have a protective affect against breast cancer. I’m not sure about you, but I’m not a huge fan of veggies for breakfast, so here are some other examples of food high in fibre:

– ½ avocado 7gm
– 1 apple 3-7gm
– 1 cup raspberries 8gm
– 1 cup blueberries 7gm
– 1 tbsp chia seeds 5gm
– 1 banana 3gm
– 1 handful of almonds 4gm
– Vitamin B6- essential in progesterone production (chickpeas, turkey, bananas and spinach.)
– Magnesium- helps reduce stress and supports progesterone (pumpkin seeds, almonds and leafy greens.)
– Zinc- promotes ovulation (pumpkin seeds, lentils, quinoa and cashews.)
– NEW Metagenics Estrovera- extract from Siberian rhubarb root which has shown to help 80% of women with their hot flushes, irritability, fatigue, libido, vaginal dryness and muscles aches and joint pain. This plant extract binds to increase oestrogen receptors to oestrogen in our bodies, hence help with the symptoms mentioned above. (Can be purchased at Thrive.)

4. Balance Blood Sugar Levels- Blood sugar spikes increase insulin which can disrupt ovulation and progesterone production.
– Low GI diet
– Avoid excess sugar and processed foods. Balancing out our oestrogen levels and increasing our progesterone is critical for healthy ageing women. Please talk to us if you have any further questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

An adjustment is the hands-on part of Chiropractic Care. The purpose of the adjustment is to optimise the communication between your brain and your body. If your Chiropractor detects abnormal movement in your spine, we call this a vertebral subluxation, a gentle, fast and specific adjustment will be performed to restore the spine’s normal movement.

Your Chiropractor can use different techniques to restore normal function depending on what is found. They can range from manual adjustments, where your Chiropractor applies a specific controlled force to a specific joint or a gentler technique may be used which involves the use of an instrument called an Activator or the use of blocks.

During an adjustment, you may hear a popping sound that can seem a bit strange, yet it is in fact completely harmless. It is just the release of gas between spinal segments.
